Project Rose: A Brighter Kitchen Taking Shape
We're opening up a dark, tightly packed Winnipeg kitchen with more useful storage, a lighter palette, and flooring that connects the surrounding rooms.

Project Rose is at that exciting stage where the old kitchen is gone and the shape of the new one is finally starting to appear. We are leading the design and staging for this Winnipeg kitchen and basement renovation, with Task Reno coordinating the build. The contractors are still on site, and the finished materials have not had their moment yet.
These are progress photos, not a finished reveal. Cabinet boxes and new flooring are in place, but the fronts, counters, appliances, lighting, trim, and styling are still to come. The later reveal will have more impact once those layers are actually installed.

Where this kitchen began
The original kitchen was wrapped in dark wood cabinetry with a green and gold patterned backsplash. A white coil-top range projected into the narrow working area, and the full-height refrigerator sat between the cooking zone and doorway. Beige flooring and dark trim added even more visual weight.
There was storage, but the compact room still felt crowded. The deep cabinet fronts, busy tile, and large white appliances all competed for attention. We wanted to create a kitchen that felt lighter and more organized, with a clear place for the everyday work of cooking and putting things away.
What is taking shape
The new cabinet boxes now stretch across multiple walls, with uppers rising close to the ceiling and tall open shelving visible near the back. A large base-cabinet assembly in the foreground is preparing the room for more work surface and storage. Its final role is not clear in these progress photos, so we are not calling it an island or peninsula until the completed layout can be shown.
Fresh white walls and grey-brown wood-look plank flooring are already changing the feeling of the adjoining room. The same floor runs beneath the new kitchen cabinetry, replacing the previous beige surface and beginning to connect the spaces. Door casings are still missing and drop cloths are still down. It is progress, and very encouraging progress, but it is not the finished room yet.

The problems we are solving
Our kitchen plan is creating more usable work and storage space while helping the room feel brighter. The new cabinetry gives the major functions clearer places, and the taller upper storage makes better use of the walls. We are moving away from the feeling of separate cabinets and appliances squeezed into a small room.
The continuous plank floor and fresh walls are also helping the kitchen belong to the rooms around it. Instead of stopping the home visually at each doorway, we want the new finishes to lead comfortably from one space into the next.
The basement is part of the same renovation, although these images do not show its finished layout or materials. We are coordinating the design decisions across both levels, but only the kitchen and flooring progress visible here are ready to be described.
Current status
Project Rose is not complete. Cabinet boxes and the central base assembly are in place, but fronts, hardware, counters, appliances, finished lighting, casings, and staging are not shown. We also cannot confirm a final cabinet colour from unfinished boxes alone.
What we can see is a brighter room beginning to emerge, with more organized work and storage zones and a floor that carries through the renovated spaces. We love this part of a project because the practical decisions made on paper start to become real. There is still plenty of work ahead, and we will let the finished materials speak once they are actually installed.
