Project Daisy is a compact kitchen that needed generous storage without feeling boxed in. We designed and staged the room with bright white cabinetry, playful geometric tile, a dusty blue feature wall, and warm wood shelves, while Task Reno completed the renovation.
We love how cheerful this finished kitchen feels. It is practical where our clients need it to be, with just enough personality to make the room feel completely their own. The earlier kitchen was wrapped in dark wood cabinets, a busy mosaic backsplash, and tan floor tile. Following the renovation through those two states makes the finished brightness easier to feel.

Letting each wall do its best work
Two working runs meet at the window corner. The sink and dishwasher share one wall, while the range and over-range microwave sit on the adjoining wall. A drawer-rich counter run finishes at a bank of tall cabinets, giving the family preparation space, appliance room, and plenty of closed storage without asking one short wall to handle everything.
Most of the upper storage is closed, but we treated the wall above the sink differently. Two thick wood shelves take the place of a solid block of cabinets, opening the view and making room for plants, favourite serving pieces, and art. Their staggered lengths follow the available wall and keep the arrangement feeling relaxed, not overly perfect.

Where Daisy began
Before the renovation, dark wood cabinets, a speckled counter, and a small mosaic backsplash filled the same compact footprint. Tan tile ran underfoot, and the counters collected appliances and everyday clutter because the storage was not doing enough of the work. It was a kitchen that functioned, but it did not feel bright or easy.
Keeping white cabinetry warm
White shaker doors run from the base cabinets through the tall pantry bank, giving the small footprint a bright, consistent background. Long brushed-metal pulls make the lower drawers easy to use, while smaller square knobs keep the upper doors visually quiet. Pale veined counters continue that brightness around the stainless undermount sink.
For the backsplash, we chose elongated white hexagon tile. It brings a little energy to the working walls, but the low-contrast grout keeps the pattern from becoming busy. Under-cabinet lighting brings out the geometry along the range and pantry runs while giving the counters the task light they need.
Above the sink, we stopped the tile at a clean horizontal line and carried dusty blue paint to the ceiling and around the window. That colour gives the wood shelves and greenery a lovely backdrop. It is one expressive moment in the room, which lets the rest of the finishes stay calm.
Storage, softness, and a little personality
The open shelves pick up the natural tones in the dark wood-look plank floor. Together, those finishes ground the white cabinetry and keep the kitchen from feeling clinical. The black and stainless range, over-range microwave, dishwasher, spring-coil faucet, and striped window shade add useful contrast without pulling the room away from its main palette.
Our biggest challenge was balancing substantial closed storage with enough openness for the room to breathe. By concentrating storage in the tall cabinet bank, we could free the sink wall from a full row of uppers. The family gets the cupboards and drawers they need, plus one light, personal wall that makes washing up feel a little less ordinary.
Project Daisy now has useful counter space across each work zone, storage placed where it makes sense, and a happy mix of blue, white, wood, and pattern. It feels bright but not stark, playful but not busy, and ready for the everyday routines that make a kitchen the centre of home.
